Problem: Windows 95 OSR2 won't recognise my atapi cdrom or atapi tape drive. I am using the Microsoft drivers. Possible Solution: Download remideup.exe from Microsoft. http://support.microsoft.com/download/support/mslfiles/remideup.exe This patch will update the Windows driver ESDI_506.pdr to a newer version. === Problem: I installed remideup.exe, but my cdrom still won't show up. Problem: I have Windows 98 and am using the Microsoft drivers. My atapi cdrom isn't recognised. Possible Solution #1: Install the dos driver for your cdrom drive. Remove any references to mscdex in your autoexec.bat file. In some cases, (as was mine) this causes Windows to detect your cdrom drive and to properly use the Windows ,its own, 32bit protected mode driver. Possible Solution #2: Set your cdrom as a slave drive, instead of the master. Possible Solution #3: Install the dos drivers, and add make shure that there is a reference to mscdex in your autoexec.bat file. This will allow you to use your cdrom in MSDOS Compatability Mode, until a better solution can be found. Possible Solution #4: Install the Via Busmaster Drivers, and hope your cdrom shows up. Not my idea of a solution. Unfortunately it may be the only solution for some people.
